In class we have been talking about Ebola. Ebola is a very contagious disease that is very deadly. There is a 10% of surviving. The Ebola virus has been around for years but this resent strain has been hard to contain and is spreading to other countries including the U.S.

There are five strains of the virus: Sudan ebolavirus, Tai Forest ebolavirus, Reston ebolavirus, Bundibugyo ebolavirus, and the current strain Zaire ebolavirus. The current one causes: fever, rash, vomiting, diarrhea, and hemorrhaging. All of these symptoms together can kill. Hemorrhaging is a very dangerous on its own because it causes blood to escape blood vessels and it goes into the surrounding tissues. If hemorrhaging where to happen in the lungs one would choke on their own blood and send them into a state of shock.

I learned that the main way to fight the disease is to prevent it from spreading. The way to do that is to quarantine everybody with the disease. We are not handling this well because the workers keep getting themselves exposed to the virus. If they keep exposing themselves to the virus and then going on to planes or other public transportation it will become very dangerous.

I feel that Ebola will be the Black Death all over again. Many people will die and it will be worldwide. If countries don’t help each other it will be too late and so many people will be dying or already dead. It will eventually die out like the Black Death, but we will go from 7 billion to 700 million. If this happens the world will need to change because many will have died, from doctors, to builders, to shop owners, to world leaders. None will be safe.

If we come together as a world I believe we can stop this disease. I don’t think we can cure it but stop it. The disease will return in the future like it has before and there will be plenty of strains that come up over the years. It will have a huge impact on the whole world because it will stop travel and cost a lot of money impacting trade and tourism. Trade and tourism have a huge roll with globalization because trade brings in other cultures and sends out some of your own. Tourism allows people to experience the other culture first hand. This disease will have a huge impact on the world because it will affect the world.

1. I found it weird that American Association spent so much money.
2. Why is the Cooperative of American Physicians spending so much on outside spending groups?
3. Nursing Homes spend $44,438,551 on lobbying.
4. Hospitals spend more than HMO’s.
5. 2009 had the highest lobbying totals.
6. 2008 more was spent on Democrats.
7. McConnell, Mitch got the most money.
8. The top five to receive money are Republicans.
9. People spent more in the Senate.
10. Democrats in the Senate  got more money.

In globalization we watched “Sicko” and it was a good documentary. You can learn a lot from it. I learned that MANY countries have free health care and we are actually one of the few who don’t have it. I don’t think we can get free health care without it going violent for many reasons.

One of the reasons is politics make too much money from health care providers so they will never change their mind on that issue. Many people have jobs that include selling health care/insurance would be fired, and companies that sell insurance will lose millions. If companies lose million so will many investors and all of the people that where listed will be angry and are not for free health care. Doctors would get paid less and doctors LOVE money and will do anything to make more including turning people away.

I personally have not had a problem with it though. My family is not super rich or super poor but I still have not had a problem. I have needed surgery, broken my collar bone, and have a sprained LCL. I can’t say any of them have had insurance problems. I feel it was one sided on looking at any of the positives.

Sex trafficking has become a major issue not only in the U.S. but throughout the whole world. Many people are sex trafficked every year. Most people who are sex trafficked are kids and a huge majority of the kids are women. Sex trafficking has been a major problem for many years but has only been in the media recently.
Sex trafficking is in the top three money making crimes behind drugs and firearms. It is so profitable because you can sell a person over and over. With drugs, people keep coming back but you have to keep buying more. With firearms you can charge high but once they have what they want that is it. There is a huge demand for trafficking young girls because you can’t have sex with an under-aged person ANYWHERE. You can buy smaller firearms at a gun store and get over the counter drugs at the pharmacy. The gun store and pharmacy don’t offer the best selection but it is something.
The reason sex trafficking has not become a big issue over the years is because people keep it so secret. As seen in the movies they can just walk around with the girls sometimes, but you could never walk around with illegal gun/drugs. The secret to crime is to keep crime a secret. Law enforcement of any kind needs to have certain amount evidence on you. They can’t prosecute simply because they think you did it, and if they get enough evidence they can only do so much at court to prove you’re guilty. If you are found guilty you will be out soon due to our low sentences in America. I learned at Boy State vehicular homicide has a max sentence of 15 years and 50,000 dollars in the state of South Dakota, which does not equal a life. Murder is a very serious crime, if that is how they punish you for murder imagine how low a sex trafficking crime the sentence is for.
Sex trafficking has had a global effect because it is so profitable and kept so secret with little the government can do to stop it. If people stopped paying for sex trafficking and we had a better law enforcement, maybe we could stop it. It has to be a global effort due to it being a global problem. If we stop it in America only, it will grow all over in the rest of the world.

Globalization has led to many things around the world some good some bad. What has globalization done to help women? Some would say it has led to sex trafficking and other problems. I say it has led to women’s rights and their rise to power.

In the early 20th century women fought for the right to vote among other rights and won. It is because of migration that we founded America, and globalization and migration are closely linked as I have explained in earlier blogs; therefore America and globalization are linked and women started getting rights in America. If America was never founded, then women may never have gotten rights.

Many women have risen to power and some have equal or more power than men. Twenty women are in the Senate and 79 are in the House. Three women are on the Supreme Court.  As of December 2013 there were 161 million in the US compared to the 156.1 million. The House and Senate are selected by voters. If there are mare women they most likely have more voting power and there are still more men. With that said, women are putting men into power; you can’t say it is a male dominated world because they could out vote men and put as many women into power as they wanted.

Not everything is good for women; some make less and are more likely to be taken advantage of then men. However I still feel the good outweighs the bad. Some women are in Congress and on top of multimillion dollar companies. Women can have power if they truly want it.
